Career Highlights

Here are a few highlights from my career.

PBX in a Flash Scripts

I just finished a complete redesign of PBX In A Flash Scripts. The site was built with Drupal which has become my favorite web development platform. In total I've developed 5 commercial sites using Drupal. Most of these sites include a bunch of customizations I developed.

PBX In A Flash Scripts is a site where PBX In A Flash users can download customizations and updates for their favorite PBX system. PBX In A Flash is great because of the people behind it. Thanks to Ward, Tom, and Joe for releasing (free!) such a powerful and truly open platform!

Nelson Contracting Professional Services

Nelson Contracting.com is the new home for Nelson Contracting Professional Services. Nelson Contracting provides design, remodeling, and construction services for residential and commercial property owners in San Francisco. The scope of this work included developing:

  • Custom nodes
  • Custom templates
  • Custom views
  • Dynamic product blocks

ExtecWest.com

ExtecWest.com is a new site for the West Coast distributor of Extec brand screening, crushing, and recycling machinery. This site was built with Drupal with lots of custom modifications:

  • Custom nodes
  • Custom templates
  • Custom views
  • Dynamic product blocks

The site also includes streaming Flash videos of various products in action. I also built a little CSS :hover image viewer for all images attached to a custom node. Check it out!

PoweredByDanger.com

Kadium has been hired to perform a complete redesign of HipTop.com which is a key destination for T-Mobile's Sidekick users. Upon hearing about this project I jumped at the opportunity for this large and challenging project. A critical business requirement is to optimize the new website for use on the Sidekick device which features full web-browsing capabilities...and a 240px wide screen.

Early on we reviewed a number of content management solutions and decided to use Drupal which is a mature and well designed open source project. We're in the middle of development now--stay tuned!

Air Force ROTC Detachment Locator Mashup

For the past month I worked on a project for the US Air Force (AFROTC) that went live on June 30 2006. The Detachment Locator is a Yahoo! Maps based "mashup" that plots the locations of all AFROTC detachments in the US. This application combines a database of nearly 1200 universities with the Yahoo! mapping service and has a number of useful features:

  • Optimized geocoding and marker plotting
  • Directions to and from any Host, Crosstown, Airport, or user-defined marker
  • Auto scrolling and centering marker algorithm
  • Filters that will show or hide universities in real time
  • Integrated database of major airports
  • Discreet zoom levels
  • Integrated Help

This was a great project to work on and the USAF said it "exceeded all expectations."

Sony Music Publishing: SonyATV.com

More good news at Kadium: I just landed a huge and potentially very lucrative project redesigning sonyatv.com and "tens" of other sonyatv.com regional websites. This project will involve interfacing with a new Sony content delivery system that will allow movie producers, advertising executives, and other professionals to license and download thousands of music tracks in the Sony Music Library.

I'm very excited to be working on two very high-profile projects at Kadium!

United States Air Force ROTC

My first major assignment at Kadium is to lead a team that will be in charge of taking over and managing the afrotc.com domain. This website is the primary online ROTC recruiting vehicle for the US Air Force.

I'm very excited about this project and cant wait to "take over" the domain which should happen January 3, 2006. Right now we are busy setting up the new hardware and server environment and coordinating logistics with the existing maintainer, Tribal DDB

Havok.com

For the past 2 months I've been implementing a new content management system for Havok, makers of several physics and animation products for computer and video games. The project consisted of a graphical redesign of their website plus solving their web publishing problems and designing a more efficient publishing workflow.

I ended up using Mambo/Joomla for the CMS and they have been happy with this solution. I performed a number of customizations to Mambo/Joomla including custom modules and components.

CabalDC.com

Cabal DC is a surf, sail, snow, board distribution company located in Bingin Washington. For this project I performed a compete graphic redesign and developed a fully custom PHP driven website. Cabaldc.com incorporates a numer of unique features including a directory indexing mechanism that automagically creates a list of links to images and other content. This PHP code facilitates easy update and maintenance of the website.
